About me:

Mathematics has long been a passion of mine, which has informed my academic study. I hold a degree in Mathematics and a Masters in Actuarial Science. I am inspired by supporting students of all abilities to realise their potential and with over six years experience in tutoring have worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds with consistent success.

All students are different, what may work for one, may not necessarily with another. Utilising my skills in communication I develop rapport and trust to assess their abilities and create tailored schemes of work using a range of methodologies and learning tools, including practical tasks and the use of a range of technology. I believe the key to success is enthusiasm, which in turn promotes a real love of learning and subsequently high levels of motivation.

I currently tutor students at two learning centres, one of which I also coordinate. As a recent Masters graduate my knowledge of the curriculum and requirements for success in school and also in further/higher education is current and fresh.

What I do when I am not tutoring:

My career in tutoring has run alongside my personal studies and I have recently completed my Masters in Actuarial Science. When not studying or tutoring I enjoy reading a wide variety of texts, playing the keyboard and listening to music. I am a firm believer in “healthy body, healthy mind” and visit the gym regularly, play tennis and practice taekwondo.

I have travelled extensively and taken part in voluntary work to support vulnerable communities both in India and here in the UK within the Tamil Cultural Arts Centre.

I am also a Part-Time Research Assistant at Interim GAAPS, continuing to hone my own mathematical abilities and knowledge.

Locations: Kingston Upon Thames, Surbiton, Tolworth, Chessington, New Malden, Worcester Park, Epsom.

Enhanced DBS Check: Yes

About me:

I am currently working as a Teaching Assistant with a Year Three class. I assist my class teacher with the day to day running and organisation of lessons. My main focus is working with small groups of children in and out of the classroom who struggle to keep up with the rest of the class. Alongside my duties during lesson time, I am also completing the Better Reading Partnership scheme with three children whom I meet with three times a week. I am responsible for planning the sessions in advance, monitoring each child’s progress every week and handing in a detailed progress report at the end of each term to the scheme co-ordinater.

I like going to the theatre and I am an avid reader who enjoys a wide range of literature; which nicely complements my love for travelling. I have been fortunate enough to travel to a number of countries around the world and experience different cultures first hand

About me:

I am a young professional graduating from the University of Southampton in Biomedical Sciences BSc (Hons). My background is scientific and so I am knowledgeable in Biology and Chemistry.

I am a trainee accountant by profession and so I am incredinly passionate about Mathematics. I hope to bring across this enthusiasm to my students!

I taylor my services to the needs of the tutee, where if there are any specific subject areas which require attention, these will be a priority as to put these topics to peace of mind. However if the tutee is unsure as to what to go through, a simple test/exam past paper can be done to cover subject areas for further practice.

In mathematics tutoring my approach is to use a basic example to understand the fundamental principle of how to calculate the answer. Once this has been acknowledged, I would then work through a few more examples until they feel comfortable.

What I do when I am not tutoring:

I tutor my younger siblings who are currently studying for their GCSEs. However, when I am not tutoring, I am studying towards my ACCA, professional chartered accounting qualification. I also volunteer for a number of charities. I do enjoy playing Badminton for a local team. Although I’m not as good as I was when I was at university!

About me:

I enjoy working with students, to teach them and keep them engaged as well as entertained. I find that teaching students is a quick way to discover whether or not what I am saying will interest and educate your audience; Whether or not I am explaining it in a way that they understand or whether I understand it. This is why I feel that it’s wonderful to teach them. I usually prefer teaching subject matter with real world implication, to keep them engaged. I believe that knowledge is best understood by learning its application. So I usually ask lots of questions where the students would ideally need to apply the knowledge or facts that they learnt.

What I do when I am not tutoring:

I am studying for my own research work, I enjoy neuroscience and I am hopeful of obtaining a funded research position.
During my spare time I like to travel and visit new places, read books or learn new skills, like cooking.

Subjects & Levels: Mathematics; all levels up to and including A-Level.

University degree:

Queen Mary University of London, Master of Mathematics, First Class.

Locations:

I am able tutor almost anywhere in East London and some parts of Essex. However I may be able to a little out these regions depending on the commute.

Enhanced DBS Check: Yes

About me:

The mathematical sciences have had me hooked as far back as I can recall. When I first began school my flare for numbers and all things scientific was already quite apparent and ever since I have displayed consistent mathematical excellence. Throughout my schooling I have frequently been top of my classes, especially at college where I achieved the highest A-Level math score of the entire school that year. For this achievement I was awarded the prize for mathematics at the subsequent prize presentation evening. I have now graduated as a master of mathematical science with flying colors scoring in the top 17 of the total 220 mathematics students graduating across all taught courses that year. Whilst studying at Queen Mary University I also worked as a student ambassador for three years on behalf of the mathematics department. During this work I gained much experience tutoring prospective students looking to apply to Queen Mary; typically GCSE and A-Level students. Many students struggle with mathematics as they simply memorise methods to solve problems to pass exams. My goal when tutoring is to ensure that my students actually comprehend what they are doing, and in my experience those are the students that achieve.

What I do when I am not tutoring:

I spend a lot of my free time trying to improve myself both mentally and physically. Some sports and activities I enjoy are cycling, powerlifting, and martial arts. I have competed in several powerlifting competitions and will be completing my second bikeathon this August in London. I also run a small network marketing business with my partner aimed at improving peoples health, fitness, and wellbeing. I often watch scientific documentaries and read papers to keep up to date with the latest breakthroughs in science. I plan to soon begin a personal training course to help further my business and learn a second language simply for my enjoyment. In the future I wish to continue improving both myself and those that I tutor.
