  • Maths, Chemistry, Physics, PE, French, Spanish, Drama up to GCSE

University degree: Swansea University, BA (Hons) English Literature 2:1

Locations: Central London Zones 1-4

Enhanced DBS Check: Yes

About me:

I studied English Literature at Swansea University and my dissertation was on Charles Dickens (in particular Great Expectations and Oliver Twist). During my degree, I volunteered to become a literacy mentor for disadvantaged children at a local primary school. I have always had my head in a book, and the thought of helping young children access this passion for reading made the decision to help incredibly easy. During the mentoring, I saw a huge development in the children’s reading skills and this sense of fulfilment made me determined to help other children succeed.

Following my graduation, I began my current position as a teaching assistant at a Primary School in North London. I predominantly work 1:1 with six children in Year 2 who have learning difficulties. In this role, I have learnt how to turn daily lessons into fun and more manageable bursts that suit the needs of each child.

I have a passion to explore every area of teaching and as a result I run an after-school football and athletics club with high achieving KS2 pupils. I thoroughly enjoy working with the older students and it is extremely rewarding to give children the chance to experience a new activity.

What I do when I am not tutoring:

I have played guitar since the age of eleven and it is the root of my passion for music. As a result I write my own music blog (www.thepursuitofsound.wordpress.com) which features new music daily.

I am also a keen runner. I have completed four half marathons and I enjoy fitness/sport on all levels.

Subjects & Levels:

  • Spanish: up to GCSE

University degree:

  • Goldsmiths College: PGCE in French
  • Roehampton University: Creative Writing and French, BA (Hons) 2:1
  • Estudio Sampere: Curso de Lengua y Civilización Españolas, Intermedio B1

Locations: London
Enhanced DBS Check: Yes
About me:

I am 26 years of age and a native French speaker, able to tutor it to all levels, as well as Spanish up to GCSE level. I have studied for a PGCE in Goldsmiths College and have years’ experience of teaching and co-teaching from Key Stage 2 to A level. I have taught in a variety of schools, including Harris Academy South Norwood graded Outstanding in 2010, and Central Foundation Boys’ School, graded Outstanding in 2015.

I’ve always had an interest in languages and am currently learning Twi, one of the Ghanaian dialects. I know the challenges of learning a new language, but also know how rewarding it can be. However, I have realized that more rewarding than this is to teach others, each according to his or her level, to help them discover a language personally, in a meaningful way.

If you are interested in a tutor with a caring, easy-to-understand approach to teaching, look no further. My aim is to raise achievements, make learning enjoyable, and show my students how the language works. You will get the best teaching from somebody who knows both French and English culture, having lived in both countries for 10 or more years.
What I do when I am not tutoring:

When I am not tutoring I enjoy watching, listening to, and reading Twi and Spanish books. I translate religious documents from English to French. I also enjoy watching documentaries, keeping my body fit through regular exercise, and spending time with church and family. I will also be spending some time as a Learning Support Assistant in school, preferably in languages.

University degree: Christie’s Education, Modern and Contemporary Art, Mlitt/MA
University of New Orleans, USA, Art History, BA GPA 3.7

Locations: Zones 1-4 . I live in North London and don’t mind traveling.

Enhanced DBS Check: Yes

About me: Cheerful greetings!

I am Nisha, originally from the States and now living in London. I am currently working in a year 5 classroom as a Teaching Assistant. I very much love my job, my favourite part is working in small support groups.

I specialise in Maths and English interventions with children that need additional support with the curriculum. I also do daily supported reading and have a phase 5 phonics group that I work with. I cherish the children I work with and try to encourage and nourish their self-esteem as well as build confidence in their learning.

I also have a background in Art Therapy which I routinely bring into my work – some children need alternative options on absorbing the material we present to them. I like to use my own creativity in helping them. I currently run a year 1 and 2 Art Club, the children love having this outlet for their imagination and it really helps in their learning. I make sure I am adaptable to each child’s needs, and have an arsenal of resources I bring into my lessons if necessary.

I look forward to having the opportunity to work with your family!

What I do when I am not tutoring: When I am not working with children, I try and do some of my favorite things. I love taking photos on my old cameras, going on scenic hikes and walks throughout the countryside, and visiting museums and galleries throughout London. I also love crafting – I am currently knitting socks for everyone in my family! I also enjoy needlepoint, crochet, and sewing. I love spending time with my family and friends, and traveling.

She got my son thinking

Jun 01, 2015 by M. E
Location: London •

M really pays attention to what children have to say. As a mother I know some of it will be silly. Some of it will be repetitive or less than sensible. But she goes with it, jokes and is silly, explains, answers their questions as best she can, or asks them some questions of her own to get them thinking.

Definitely recommend her as a tutor

I would happily appoint M. as my son's tutor again If I could as I consider her to be a valuable mentor and tutor, who consistently worked hard towards achieving good results and delivers all expectations.

About me:

I am a classical and flamenco guitarist with over 20 years of experience in teaching and performing. I started learning flamenco guitar at an early age and soon I became a professional guitar teacher and performer.

I have performed in countless formal and informal occasions such as full concerts, recitals, weddings etc. I have also taught several pupils between the age of 4 to 55 years old.

However my desire in a more demanding environment and the curiosity for other forms of music, lead me for my academic studies at the London College of Music, University of West London, where I achieved my degree in Performance. I am currently studying my post graduate at the same college while that I am expanding my work with collaborating with several different ensembles as well as having over 50 students mostly in primary school level in my care.

As a performer I need to keep up with my daily practice in order to be prepared for my performances. Moreover as an scholar I do read music literature as well as listening to the contemporary music and attending concerts.

Enhanced DBS Check: Yes

About me:

I began my career working for the Metropolitan Police Service as a Communications Officer. I answered 999 emergency calls and radio dispatched. Such a highly demanding role meant I was able to become more articulate, concentrate on what the problem was and how best to solve it quickly, and also to prioritise workload. I studied my Bachelors and Masters part time while working full time and achieved great results. Having been privately educated, working for the MPS meant I could appreciate for the first time how social problems in London stem often from a lack of good education. After 9 years I left the MPS keen to start making a practical, permanent difference to the lives of children in London.

I was accepted by the Teach First programme as a participant . I have deferred my start to Sept 2016 keen to gain more experience of working one-to-one and small group tutoring. I am an analytical person, able to look at a problem from many different angles. I believe every child can reach their potential and beyond in Mathematics. Often an orthodox way of solving a problem doesn’t make sense for every child. That’s where a great tutor can help.

What I do when I am not tutoring:

I swim very regularly and like to read most things from online news to novels and innovative education practice articles. I play cricket in the summer. I have a deep connection with India and travel there whenever possible. I fundraise for good causes whenever possible as well as spend time with friends discovering new places and new things about London. I most importantly though love to spend time with my beautiful daughters and wife.

About me:

My employment history includes 10 Years of working in schools and educational services specifically catering to students of special needs. In the many schools I have worked with I was mainly assigned to students who struggled to access lessons due to various reasons. I have dealt and worked with many students who have found themselves distant to learning due to several issues involving learning difficulties, home life or social issues. Every child that I have worked with I have dedicated myself to understand their needs and creating various ways and techniques to help support them in developing not only in terms of their grades but emotionally evolving their confidence and their prospective on learning. Many students who I have worked with understand what it means to learn but struggle to understand how to learn.

I have a very positive approach to students and tend to highlight their strengths as supposed to their weaknesses encouraging mo re to be proud of. In addition to working with students on the SEN register I have also had many opportunities to cover several lessons. I have also taught literacy and numeracy and have delivered both History and English GCSE lessons.

What I do when I am not tutoring:

Teaching is a big part of my life whether its teaching or being taught however when I am not working or studying for my PGCE I love to go to concerts, theatres and I love to embrace art and fashion. I also enjoy reading, going to the gym as well as treating myself to the occasional trip to the spa.
